Kalki 2898 AD Movie Review:- Nag is a 2024 Indian Telugu-language epic science fiction film directed by Ashwin and produced by Vyjayanthi Movies. The film has stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani. Inspired by Hindu scriptures, it is the first installment in the intentionally Kalki cinematic universe. Set in a post-apocalyptic world within the 12 months 2898 AD, the film follows a select group on a mission to avoid ruining Kalki, the unborn child of lab subject SUM-80.
The film was formally released in February 2020 under the working title Prabhas 21, as it is the actor’s 20th debut in the lead position, and was later revised to the working title. Project K. Principal photography began a year later in July 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was shot in several legs over the next three years, and wrapped by late May 2024. The official title was introduced in July 2023. The film’s music is composed by Santosh Narayanan, cinematography by Serbian cinematographer Djordje Stojiljkovic and is being edited by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao.

Kalki 2898 AD Initially scheduled to launch on 9 May 2024, however was postponed due to incomplete post-production work. It was launched on 27 June 2024 in normal, IMAX, 3D and 4DX codecs worldwide. Made on a production budget of ₹600 crore, it is the most expensive Indian film of all time. The film has grossed over ₹1,100 crore worldwide in its 50-plus days at the box office, since it was launched on OTT on 22 August 2024.

In 3102 BCE, after the Kurukshetra War, Ashwatthama tried to kill Uttara’s unborn child. To accomplish this task, Krishna, the eighth reincarnation of Vishnu, curses him to roam the earth as an immortal and witness the tragedy of humanity caused by social and moral decline during the Kali Yuga. His divine gem can also be taken from his forehead, and his salvation is to be secured by protecting Kalki’s mother, the tenth and final reincarnation of Vishnu, towards the climax of the Kali Yuga.
In 2898 AD, 6000 years after the events of the Kurukshetra War, Kashi stands as the last recognized metropolis in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by a 200-year-old despotic god king, Supreme Yaskin. Yaskin directions from the ‘complex’, an inverted-pyramid megastructure that floats above the city. His authority is enforced by Commander Manas, Counselor Bani, and an army of soldiers who guard against threats, particularly rebels from the hidden metropolis of Shambhala, who imagine within Kalki’s prophesied arrival. .
In this dystopian society, fertile female refugees in Kasi are forcibly taken to the compound for Project OK, an experiment designed to produce a secret serum for Yaskin through artificially inseminated embryos. However, the serum does not develop into potent until after the 150-day gestation interval, and not a single subject has survived that long, nor has it survived the extraction process.

Raya, a small woman disguised as a boy, escapes being recruited into Project OK with the help of the Shambhalan rebels. Raya finds refuge in a cave where she encounters Ashwatthama. She unwittingly brings him her divine gem, which he had inadvertently come into her possession during her escape. After wearing the gem in his forehead, Ashwatthama becomes aware that a woman is pregnant from Kalki. Together, the two descended to search for him.
Meanwhile, at the compound, SUM-80, a Project OK subject to hide her 150-day pregnancy, is outside and forced to endure the extraction process. Manas extracts a drop of serum from her fetus before she is rescued by the Shambhala rebels, who rename her Sumati. On the way to Shambhala their transport is attacked by bounty hunters and raiders, although they stop them. Bhairav, a bounty hunter, follows with his AI supercar, Buji.

Despite Bhairava’s best efforts, Ashwatthama overpowers him and together they reach Shambhala, where the tree of life blossoms in Kalki’s presence. Ashwathama tells Raya that his walking stick is a dull weapon, the Vijay Dhanush, which belonged to his good friend Karan, a warrior of the Kurukshetra war. Meanwhile, Bhairav competes with Manas to seize Sumati as a substitute for entering the complex.
