NTA releases revised rank list for NEET – The National Testing Agency on Monday announced the revised rank list for the medical entrance exam NEET-UG, officials said.
The revised list was announced after re-examination for candidates who were earlier given grace marks to compensate for the loss of time as the examination started late at six centers on May 5.
After the Supreme Court ordered re-examination at seven centers on June 23, 48 per cent of the 1,563 candidates did not appear.
National Testing Agency (NTA) officials reported that out of 1,563 candidates, 813 appeared for the re-examination and others opted for marks without grace.
Centre-wise, Chandigarh — where there were only two candidates — registered zero turnout. The under-scanner Jhajjar center registered 58 per cent attendance, with 287 re-exams out of 494 candidates.
Allegations have surfaced that grace scores were inflated, with six examinees from a single Haryana center scoring a perfect 720, along with 61 others. Consequently, the apex court ordered cancellation of the grace marks and provided an option for re-examination.
“At least 52 per cent — 813 out of 1,563 candidates — appeared for the re-examination. No candidate appeared in Chandigarh while the number was 291 from Chhattisgarh, one from Gujarat, 287 from Haryana and 234 from Meghalaya,” the official said earlier.
The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) was held across 4,750 centers on May 5, with around 24 lakh candidates appearing. Initially expected on June 14, the result was declared on June 4 due to the early completion of the evaluation of answer sheets.
Sixty-seven students, including six from a single center in Haryana, scored a perfect 720, an unprecedented number in the history of NTA, raising suspicions of irregularities and the role of grace marks.
NEET-UG is conducted by NTA for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutes.
There have been protests and lawsuits on allegations of various irregularities, including paper leaks, and various quarters have demanded a full re-examination.
The Center, however, maintained that the incidents of irregularities were “localized” and could not jeopardize the careers of lakhs of candidates who cleared the exam properly.
