Pakeezah Director’s Son Reacts To Heeramandi Actor Sharmin Segal’s Statement About Meena Kumari

Heeramandi Actor Sharmeen Sehgal recently compared her performance in the series to that of Meena Kumari in ‘Pakeesa’. The star’s statement comes after viewers criticized Alamseeb’s portrayal in the show and called it ‘expressionless’. Now, the legendary actor’s stepfather Tajdar Amrohi has reacted to Sharmeen’s statement.

In a recent interview, Pakeesa director Kamal Amrohi’s son Tajdar said he doesn’t agree with Sharmin’s comparison. He also said that the Netflix series ‘Heeramandi’ cannot be compared with the classic film ‘Pakeesa’.

In a conversation with Zoom, Tajdar was asked about Sharmin’s statement that she was inspired by Meena Kumari’s ‘nothingness’ in Pakeesa while portraying her character in ‘Heeramandi’.

“I don’t know Sharm. But no, I cannot relate to her statement about nothingness,” he said.

Tajdar added that there is a big difference between the two acts. “Between Heeramandi and Pakeesa Zameen Asman ka fark hai. Do not compare the two. No one can make Pakeeza again. He said that Meena Kumari or Kamal Amrohi can never be born again.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali once visited Kamal Amrohi’s movie sets

Talking about Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Tajdar said the filmmaker was a fan of Kamal Amrohi’s work. “Main Iske Barre Mein Bolna Nahin Chahta Kyungi Bhansali My father is a big fan of Kamal Amrohi. Bhansali tries to take shots like my father did in all his films.

He also shared that 15 years ago, Bhansali had visited Kamalistan Studios in search of sets where Kamal had worked. “With great respect, he touched the ground where my father was sitting,” he said.

Speaking to ETimes, Sharmin Segal said she tried to meet Pakeesa ’15-16 times’. The actor also said that Meenakumari was the inspiration for his acting in ‘Heeramandi’.

“Meena Kumari was one of my inspirations,” she said, adding that the ‘nothingness’ sequence in her performance helped her.

‘Hiramondi: The Diamond Bazaar’ was released on Netflix on May 1. The series also stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Richa Chadha and Fardeen Khan.
