  1. Government extends deadline for PLI Scheme for Textiles till 14.02.2022
  • Ministry of Textiles has extended the timeline for submission of applications under the PLI Scheme for Textiles till February 14, 2022. Earlier this deadline was 31st January 2022.

Some facts about PLI Scheme for Textiles:

  • Total financial outlay- Rs 10,683 crore.
  • The scheme envisages incentives for the production of Man Made Fiber (MMF) apparel, MMF fabrics and technical textile products Made in India.
  • This scheme will be applicable from September 24, 2021 to March 31, 2030. The incentive under the scheme will be payable for five years.
  • The Empowered Group of Secretaries (EGoS) headed by the Cabinet Secretary will monitor the progress of this PLI scheme.

Banking News

  1. Tata Group choose SBI, Bank of Baroda and HDFC Bank as preferred bankers for Air India
  • The Tata Group has selected State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and HDFC Bank as preferred bankers for Air India. Recently the Tata group has acquired Air India from the government.
  • Air India is the largest international carrier outside India with 18.6% market share.
  • Tata Sons has taken a loan of Rs 10,000 crore from SBI and Rs 5,000 crore from Bank of Baroda. The loan amount from HDFC Bank is yet to be ascertained.

  • In tennis, World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty of Australia defeated Danielle Collins of the US 6-3 7-6 to win the women’s singles final title at the Australian Open 2022 on January 29, 2022.
  • With this win, 25-year-old Barty has become the first Australian woman in 44 years to win a Grand Slam title at home.
  • Prior to this, Chris O’Neill was the last Australian woman to win the Australian Open in 1978.
  • It is Barty’s 15th and third career Grand Slam title after the French Open in 2019 and Wimbledon in 2021.
