  • Armenia’s President Armen Sarkeesian has announced his resignation on 23 January 2022.
  • According to Sarkeesian, his office has not been given enough powers to allow him to become an effective head of state.
  • Armen Sarkeesian served as the fourth President of Armenia from 9 April 2018 to 23 January 2022.
  • He also served as the Prime Minister of Armenia from 4 November 1996 to 20 March 1997.

  1. India and Israel launch commemorative logo to mark 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties
  • India and Israel have launched a commemorative logo on January 24, 2022 to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
  • The logo was jointly unveiled by Israel’s Ambassador to India Naor Gilone and Indian Envoy to Israel Sanjeev Singla through virtual mode.
  • The logo has the respective symbols of the national flags of both the countries, which is the Ashoka Chakra and the Star of David.
  • The symbols make up the number 30 which signifies the 30th anniversary of the bilateral relationship.
  • Diplomatic relations between Israel and India were established on 29 January 1992.

  1. Rs 12 crore siphoned off by hackers from of Andhra Pradesh Mahesh Co-op Urban Bank
  • AP Mahesh Co-op Urban Bank’s server was hacked and an amount of Rs 12 crore was transferred from Andhra Pradesh Mahesh Co-op Urban Bank funds to various other bank accounts by hackers.
  • This amount was not withdrawn from the accounts of the customers, but was transferred from the bank’s funds. In addition, the bank’s funds are insured against cyber attacks.
  • The head office of AP Mahesh Co-op Urban Bank is located in Hyderabad, Telangana.
  1. City Union Bank launches CUB Easy Pay integrated Debit Card in a Fitness Watch
  • City Union Bank, in partnership with GOQii (smarttech-enabled preventive healthcare platform) and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced the launch of RuPay On –The-Go Payment solution through their Debit Card in a Fitness Watch.
  • CUB EASY PAY is a payment method by City Union Bank. Now the bank has integrated this feature of Debit Card in a Fitness Watch. For this Customers need to hold this wristwatch in front of the PoS device during payment like tapping the card on PoS. For payments above Rs. 5,000, customers need to tap and enter their PIN.
  • In December 2021, City Union Bank had launched CUB Easy Pay Keychain, a wearable payment device that allows to tap and pay purchases on merchant PoS.

  1. Assam Confers ‘Assam Baibhav’ Award To Industrialist Ratan Tata
  • The state government of Assam has conferred its highest civilian award ‘Assam Baibhav’ to industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata for the year 2021.
  • Mr Tata has been honored for his “extraordinary contribution to advance cancer care in Assam”.
  • The award was presented by the Governor of Assam, Jagdish Mukhi on January 24, 2022.
  • Assam Baibhav is the highest civilian award of the state of Assam.
  • The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh (US$6,600).
  1. Indian film Koozhangal wins Best Film Award at 20th Dhaka International Film Festival 2022
  • Oscar-nominated Tamil film ‘Kozhangal’ has bagged the Best Film Award in the Asian Film Competition category at the Dhaka International Film Festival 2022.
  • The film is directed by PS Vinothraj. Famous South Indian actress Nayanthara and her husband Vignesh Shivan are the producers of the film.
  • Meanwhile, Malayalam actor Jayasuriya won the best actor award in the Asian competition for the film ‘Sunny’. The film is directed by Ranjit Shankar.
