  1. World Bank’s Flagship Gender Toolkit Launched
  • A gender toolkit based on “Enabling Gender-Responsive Urban Mobility and Public Spaces” was launched at a session organized by the World Bank and the Chennai Urban Metropolitan Transport Authority.
  • The World Bank has developed a two-toolkit that outlines a four-pillar implementation framework for urban institutions to build a gender-responsive urban transport and public space program.
  • Assessment of Ground Situation: The first pillar involves assessing the current reality on the ground, including understanding gender differences in mobility patterns, security issues, and infrastructure and policy inadequacies.
  1. Japan, Britain, and Italy to Jointly Build Sixth-Generation Fighter Jets
  • Japan has announced that it will jointly develop its next-generation fighter jets with the United Kingdom and Italy as it seeks to expand defense cooperation beyond its traditional ally, the United States.
  • The Mitsubishi F-X fighter jet will replace an aging fleet of F-2s that Japan previously developed with the United States. The nations will merge their current plans for the development of the next generation of aircraft – the FX and Britain’s Tempest, a successor to the Eurofighter Typhoon – to produce the new fighter for deployment in 2035.
  • The deal would give Japan greater support in countering China’s growing assertiveness and allow Britain a larger presence in the Indo-Pacific region.

States News

  1. KCR Launches Bharat Rashtra Samithi Party After ECI Approval
  • The Election Commission has informed TRS President and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao that it has accepted the change of name of his party from Telangana Rashtra Samithi to Bharat Rashtra Samithi. In a letter to the TRS, the Election Commission cited a letter the party had sent to the poll body on October 5 requesting it to change its name.
  • Telangana’s ruling TRS changed its name to ‘BRS’ on 5 October, marking the party’s foray into ‘national politics. A resolution to this effect was passed at the party’s general body meeting here. Rao read out the resolution and announced that the party’s general body has unanimously resolved to change the name from TRS to BRS.

  1. RBI Signs Currency Swap Agreement with Maldives Monetary Authority
  • The Reserve Bank of India has signed a currency swap agreement with the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) to enable the MMA to draw from the RBI in multiple tranches up to a maximum of $200 million.
  • The agreement has been signed under the SAARC Currency Swap Framework. The agreement will provide swap support as a backstop line of funding for short-term foreign exchange liquidity requirements.
  • The word barter means exchange. A currency swap is an agreement or contract between two countries for the exchange of currencies with predetermined terms and conditions.

Sports News

  1. 1000 Khelo India Centers To Be Opened Across the Country By August 15
  • Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said one thousand Khelo India centers will be opened by the 15th of August next year across the country. He added that out of these one thousand centers, 733 centers have been already sanctioned.
  • The minister said as compared to 2014, when the budget of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports was Rs 1,219 crore, it had increased to 3,062 crores for the year 2022-23, which is almost three times more. Thakur highlighted some of India’s major sporting triumphs that had taken place since the coming of the Modi government in 2014.

  • Belgium captain Eden Hazard has announced his retirement from international football following Belgium’s early exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He was the captain of Belgium in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
  • Hazard made his international debut in 2008 and scored 33 times in 126 matches. He helped Belgium reach the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup, where they lost to eventual champions France and beat England in the third-place playoff.

  1. 72nd Human Rights Day 2022 observed on 10th December
  • Human Rights Day is celebrated across the world on 10 December every year. It is the day when the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948.
  • Human Rights Day focuses on the fundamental rights and freedoms that people globally have simply by virtue of being human. It celebrates and advocates rights that cut across distinctions of nationality, gender, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, religion, or any other status.
  • This year marks the 74th anniversary of the adoption of the UDHR and the 72nd Human Rights Day.
