PESB selects Amit Banerjee as CMD of BEML

The Public Sector Selection Board has selected Amit Banerjee as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharat Earth Movers Limited, (BEML) as an Indian public sector undertaking.
PESB announced the meeting on 26 April 2021. Presently, he is serving as Director (Rail and Metro), BEML Limited.
In his professional career of more than three decades at BEML, Mr. Banerjee has worked in R&D and manufacturing operations. His experience also includes design and development of different products like SSEMU, Metro cars, catenary maintenance vehicles etc.

China names its first-ever Mars rover “Zhurong”

China named its first Mars rover “Zhurong” after an ancient fire god before attempting to land on the red planet in the month of May.

RBI Caps Tenure of Private Banks MD & CEO at 15 Years

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has ended the tenure of the Managing Director and Chief Executive of commercial banks for up to 15 years. The same limit will also apply to full-time directors (WTD). This means that the same incumbent cannot hold the post for more than 15 years.
The revised instructions will be applicable to all private sector banks and small-scale subsidiaries of foreign banks, including those of small finance banks (SFBs). However, this will not apply to busy foreign banks as branches in India.

Oxford Economics Projects India’s FY22 GDP Growth Forecast to 10.2%

Global forecasting firm Oxford Economics has revised India’s GDP growth forecast to below 10.2 percent for FY 2021-22.
It previously predicted 11.8 percent. The downward revision is based on the country’s severe health burden, weak vaccination rates, and the lack of a sound government strategy to prevent the epidemic.

India third highest military spender in 2020

According to new data titled ‘SIPRI Military Expenditure Database’ published by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) on April 26, 2021, India has retained its position as the world’s third largest military spend in 2020.
As per the new report, the top five biggest spenders in 2020 were the United States ($778 billion), China ($252 billion), India ($72.9 billion), Russia ($61.7 billion) and the United Kingdom ($59.2 billion) respectively.
These five countries together account for 62 percent of global military expenditure.
Globally, military spending increased to $ 1981 billion in 2020. This price is actually a 2.6 percent increase compared to 2019.
