  • The Public Enterprise Selection Board has elected Amit Banerjee to the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharat Earth Movers Limited, (BEML), an Indian public sector undertaking.
  • PESB made this announcement in a meeting held on April 26, 2021. Presently, he is serving as Director (Rail and Metro), BEML Limited.
  • In his professional career of more than three decades at BEML, Mr. Banerjee has worked in R&D and manufacturing operations. In his experience, design and development of different products like SSEMU, Metro car, catenary maintenance vehicle also includes etc.

  1. Shivalik Small Finance Bank Limited started its operations
  • UP based Shivalik Small Finance Bank Limited started operations as a Small Finance Bank (SFB) from 26 April 2021.
  • It is important to remember that Shivalik Mercantile Co-operative Bank (SMCB) is the first urban co-operative bank (UCB) to obtain a license from RBI to act as a small finance bank (SFB) in India.

  1. Oxford Economics reduces India’s FY22 GDP growth forecast to 10.2%
  • The global forecasting firm Oxford Economics has predicted a cut in the GDP growth rate of 10.2 per cent released for India for the financial year 2021-22.
  • Earlier it had predicted a growth of 11.8 percent in India’s GDP.
  • The cuts have been made due to the country’s serious health condition, reduction in vaccination rates and the lack of any concrete governmental strategy to prevent the epidemic.

  1. DRDO develops single crystal blade for helicopter engines
  • The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has developed single-crystal blade technology for helicopters and for which DRDO has supplied 60 blades to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) as part of their indigenous helicopter development program for engine application.
  • DRDO will develop a total of five sets (300 blades) of single-crystal blades.
  • This is part of a program undertaken by the Defense Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) to develop five sets of single-crystal high-pressure turbine (HPT) blades using super-flow.
