  1. J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha launches ‘Photographic Record Of On-Site Facility’ (PROOF) App
  • In Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha unveiled a mobile application named PROOF to bring more transparency and accountability in the governance system.
  • PROOF stands for ‘Photographic Record of On-Site Facility’.
  • The main objective of this app is to monitor the work progress of all the projects allotted to various departments of the Union Territory and ensure timely completion of these projects.
  • The app will give complete pictorial view of the work along with its geographical coordinates i.e. latitude and longitude and user comments on work progress
  • As per the new rules of the UT government, no bills shall be entertained in the treasury unless photographs of projects are uploaded.
  • In order to get the bills passed, it will be mandatory to upload geo-tagged photographs to bring in more  transparency and accountability in the system.

Banking News

  1. HDFC launches ‘green and sustainable’ deposits programme for retail clients
  • India’s largest private sector bank, HDFC has launched a green and sustainable deposits programme for retail clients, with an aim to safeguard the environment from climate change.
  • The funds from these fixed deposits will be used for financing of green and sustainable housing credit solutions and services.
  • Interest Rates : 6.55 percent
  • Maturity period : between 3 to 10 years
  • Senior Citizens will get an additional interest rate of 0.25 percent per annum on their deposits of up to Rs 2 crore.
  • Further, an additional interest rate of 0.1 percent per annum will be applicable on these deposits up to Rs 50 lakh if made through the online platform of the bank.

  1. INS Tabar Participates in Exercise Konkan 2021 with Royal Navy of UK
  • Indian Naval Ship Tabar arrived in Portsmouth, England on 12 August 2021 to undertake the annual bilateral drill ‘Exercise Konkan 2021’ between the Indian Navy and the Royal Navy of Britain.
  • Bilateral naval exercise Konkan is being conducted every year since 2004 to enhance interoperability, synergy and cooperation between the two navies.
  • HMS Westminster of the Royal Navy took part from the British side.

  1. Indian GM Raunak Sadhwani wins 2021 Spilimbergo Open Chess Tournament
  • A 15-year-old young Indian Grandmaster Raunak Sadhwani has won the 19th Spilimbergo Open chess tournament in Italy on August 15, 2021.
  • Fourth seed Sadhwani, who hails from Nagpur, remained undefeated in the tournament with seven points from nine rounds, with five wins and four draws.
  • In the ninth and final round, Sadhwani and Italian GM Pier Luigi Basso tied with seven points, but the Indian was declared the winner on the basis of a better tie-break score.

  1. Maki Kaji, creator of Sudoku puzzle passes away
  • Puzzle Sudoku creator Maki Kaji passed away at the age of 69 due to cancer of the bile duct.
  • He was known as the father of Sodoku and was from Japan. He was the chairman of the Nikolai Company Limited, a Japanese puzzle maker.
