  1. PM Modi inaugurates and lays foundation stone of multiple projects at Somnath in Gujarat 
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple projects in Somnath, Gujarat on August 20, 2021 via video conferencing.

Projects inaugurated included:

  • Somnath Promenade – This project is developed under PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive) Scheme, at a cost of over Rs.47 crore.
  • Somnath Exhibition Centre – This centre has been developed in the premises of ‘Tourist Facilitation Centre’. It displays the exhibits from dismantled parts of old Somnath temple and its sculptures having Nagar style temple architecture of old Somnath.
  • Reconstructed temple precinct of Old (Juna) Somnath – This temple is also known as Ahilyabai Temple because it was built by Queen Ahilyabai of Indore. The reconstructed project has been completed by Shree Somnath Trust with a total outlay of  Rs3.5 crore.
  • Foundation Stone: The project for which the foundation stone was laid was Shree Parvati Temple. Total outlay of project is Rs.30 Crore. The project includes construction of temple in Sompura Salats Style, development of Garbha Griha and Nritya Mandap.

  1. NPCI partners with Mashreq Bank to launch UPI in the UAE
  • NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) has partnered with Mashreq Bank to launch the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payment system facility in the UAE.
  • Mashreq Bank is the oldest privately owned bank in the United Arab Emirates.
  • The move will benefit Indian tourists and those traveling to the UAE for business or leisure purposes to pay for their purchases using the UPI-based mobile application at shops and merchant stores in the UAE.
  1. Kotak Mahindra Bank launches DIY Digital Repayment platform- ‘Neo Collections’
  • Kotak Mahindra Bank has launched a platform named ‘Neo Collections’, a do-it-yourself digital repayment platform for missed loan repayment.
  • Kotak Mahindra Bank in association with Creditus Solutions has launched the Neo Collections platform.
  • The main objective of this DIY digital repayment platform is to make the repayment of outstanding loans more convenient for the customers.

  • This will make business loans more easily accessible to small businesses, and reduce the credit gap within India’s MSME sector.

  • Amitabh Bachchan has become the first celebrity in India to lend his voice to Amazon’s Alexa. His voice will be available in both English and Hindi languages.
  • The cost of connecting Amitabh Bachchan’s voice to Alexa will cost Rs.149 per year.
