  • The Union Ministry for Science & Technology has released “Biotech-PRIDE (Promotion of Research and Innovation through Data Exchange) Guidelines”.
  • The Biotech-PRIDE Guidelines have been developed by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT). The guidelines are aimed at providing a well-defined framework and guiding principle to facilitate and enable sharing and exchange of biological knowledge, information and data.
  • The guidelines will be implemented through the Indian Biological Data Centre (IBDC). The exchange of information will help in promoting research and innovation in different research groups across the country.

  1. Bhubaneswar becomes first Indian city to vaccinate 100% against COVID-19
  • Bhubaneswar has become the first Indian city to receive 100% COVID-19 vaccination. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) had launched a massive vaccination campaign against COVID-19. The credit for this milestone goes to BMC, which runs 55 centers for vaccines all the time.
  • BMC has a record of around nine lakh people who are above 18 years of age in the city. Which includes around 31 thousand healthcare workers, 33 thousand front-line workers. 5 lakh 17 thousand people are in the age group of 18 to 44 years.   • India’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) has launched a new and advanced security feature called ‘SIM Binding’ for its YONO and YONO Lite apps to protect customers from various digital frauds.
  • Under the new SIM binding feature, the YONO and YONO Lite apps will work only on devices whose mobile number’s SIM is registered with the bank.
  • The main aim of the new version of the platform is to provide enhanced security to customers and help them with a convenient and safe online banking experience.
  • SBI customers will have to update their mobile app, to get access to the new version of YONO and YONO Lite with enhanced security features.
  • The users will need to complete the one-time registration process on these apps, where the bank will verify the SIM of the registered mobile number with the lender.
  • Customers must register themselves with the device which has the SIM of the registered contact number.

  1. HDFC Bank launches ‘Dukandar Overdraft Scheme’
  • HDFC Bank in partnership with CSC SPV announced the launch of an overdraft facility for small retailers. Known as ‘Dukander Overdraft Scheme’. The purpose of this scheme of HDFC Bank is to help shopkeepers and merchants to overcome the shortage of cash.
  • According to the bank, retailers working for at least three years are eligible for this scheme by providing six months bank statement from any bank.
  • HDFC Bank will approve an overdraft limit from a minimum of Rs.50,000 to a maximum of Rs.10 lakhs based on the statements. Importantly, HDFC Bank won’t seek collateral security, business financials, and income tax returns from retailers who apply for the scheme.

  1. RBI imposes penalty of Rs 50.35 lakh on Janalaxmi Co-operative Bank
  • The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a penalty of Rs.50.35 lakh on Janalakshmi Sahakari Bank, Nashik for non-compliance of certain regulatory requirements.
  • The penalty has been imposed on Janalakshmi Sahakari Bank for non-compliance with the directions issued by RBI on ‘Placement of Deposits by Primary (Urban) Co-operative Banks with other Banks’ and ‘Subscription of Credit Information Companies (CICs)’.
  • A statutory inspection conducted by RBI with reference to the bank’s financial position as on March 31, 2019, and the inspection report pertaining thereto, and examination of all related correspondence revealed non-compliance with the directions.

  • The 24-year-old, who has yet to win a Grand Slam title, was in fine form to become the first German man to win a singles Olympic gold in the one hour and 19-minute express event.

  1. Italy’s Marcell Jacobs wins men’s 100m gold at Tokyo Olympics 2020
  • Italy’s Lamont Marcel Jacobs traversed a field of unusual suspects to claim a shocking Olympic gold in the men’s 100 meters, breaking retired Jamaican star Usain Bolt’s 13-year hold on the blue-riband event.
  • American Fred Carey took the silver in a personal best of 9.84, with Canada’s Andre de Grasse repeating his 2016 bronze in 9.89, which was also a new best.
