India to launch mobile tech platform ‘UNITE AWARE’ for UN peacekeepers

India will launch ‘UNITE AWARE’, a mobile tech platform for the United Nations Peacekeepers to improve their safety and security in the line of duty.
It will be launched during India’s United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Presidency term in August 2021 (Presidency of the UNSC Council is held by each of the members in turn for one month).
UNITED AWARE will increase the situational awareness of the peacekeepers by providing terrain-related information.
India has spent US $ 1.64 million on the project and is developing it in partnership with the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the Department of Operational Support.
The information about the platform was shared by India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador K Nagaraj Naidu during his virtual address to UNSC Open Debate ‘Peacekeeping Operations: Improving safety and security of peacekeepers.

American professional golfer, Phil Mickelson, has created history by winning the 2021 PGA Championship at the age of 50. Along with this victory, Mickelson became the oldest player to win a major title in PGA Tour history.

V Karthikeyan Pandian, an IAS officer, and personal secretary to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik were awarded the Presidential Award by the International Hockey Federation through the 47th FIH Congress. He has been honored for his contribution towards organizing and promoting hockey in Odisha.
On the closing day of the 47th FIH Congress held virtually, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) announced Pandian will receive the award for his contribution and services to Hockey in Odisha.

1971 war hero Col Panjab Singh passes away

After the death of Colonel Punjab Singh, the hero of the Battle of Poonch during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, the last rites were performed with full military honors under epidemic protocol.
The retired officer, who was awarded the Veer Chakra, the third highest war-time gallantry award, died of post- Covid-19 complications.
Panjab Singh was born on 15 February 1942, the colonel was commissioned into the 6th Battalion, The Sikh Regiment on16 December 1967. He went on to command the prestigious battalion from 12 October 1986 to 29 July 1990.

Cheetah to be re-introduced in India from Africa in November

The cheetah, the world’s fastest land animal, which was declared extinct in India in 1952, is expected to reintroduce into the country at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh in November this year.
Kuno, positioned within the Chambal area, unfolds over a space of over 750 sq km and has a conducive atmosphere for the cheetah.
The last spotted cheetah of the country died in 1947 in Chhattisgarh and in 1952 it was declared extinct in the country. The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) set up an undertaking to bring the cheetah back a few years.
The Supreme Court docket had earlier given its approval to introduce African cheetahs to an acceptable habitat in India on an experimental foundation.
