  1. Sri Lanka PM Ranil Wickremesinghe announces resignation
  • Ranil Wickremesinghe has resigned as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka to clear the way for an all-party government. He will leave after forming an all-party government and a majority in Parliament.

  1. National Capital Region Planning Board’s geo-portal “Pariman” now accessible to the public
  • Geo-Portal for NCR known as ‘PARIMAN’ was launched on 31.08.2021 in the 40th meeting of the Board by Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Chairman, NCRPB, and Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs.
  • For the purpose of effective utilization of remote sensing and GIS technology, a web geo-portal has been developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC), initially for use by the National Capital Region (NCR) participating states and the office of the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB).
  1. Internet exchanges launched in Durgapur and Bardhaman by the National Internet Exchange of India
  • Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India, inaugurated two new Internet Exchange Points (IXP) of the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) at Durgapur and Vardhman.
  • In the presence of S. S. Ahluwalia, Member of Parliament for Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha, in keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India vision to connect every Indian. It is under the 1000-day plan of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

  1. Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh elected YSRC president for life 
  • The Yuvajana Shramik Rythu Congress (YSRC) elected Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as “president for life”.
  • Following a change in the party’s constitution, the following decision was taken after a two-day plenary meeting of the YSRC.

  1. Shriram General Insurance and City Union Bank signed a corporate agency agreement 
  • City Union Bank (CUB) and Shriram General Insurance entered into an agreement in a corporate set up to offer insurance products of Shriram General Insurance through its network of 727 offices across India.
  • As per this arrangement, Shriram General Insurance will provide the bank’s customers with personal lines of insurance products including auto, personal injury, home, and travel insurance as well as business lines of insurance goods such as property, marine, and engineering insurance.
  1. Union Bank launched Open Banking Sandbox and Metaverse Virtual Lounge 
  • Union Bank of India (UBI) has introduced a Metaverse Virtual Lounge – Uni-verse, & Open Banking Sandbox environment in collaboration with Tech Mahindra in an effort to elevate consumers’ banking experiences.
  • In the beginning, movies and information on the bank’s deposits, loans, government assistance programs, digital initiatives, etc. will be hosted by Universe. Customers will receive a special banking experience thanks to it.
  • The bank will work with fintech and start-ups to develop cutting-edge banking products under the Open Banking Sandbox environment, according to reports.

  1. ‘Father of Indian Internet’ BK Syngal passes away 
  • Brijendra K Singhal, former chairman of Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL), passed away after a prolonged illness. He was 82 years old. Singhal, who has been acknowledged as the father of the Indian Internet, was known for his strong views and fearlessness in taking establishments.
  • As the chairman of VSNL, he was informally known as the ‘Bulldozer’ for his ability to move through bureaucratic hurdles, resulting in VSNL growing from a $125 million company in 1991 to $1.65 billion by 1998. became a communications company.
