  1. Delhi Government tie-up with UNICEF for employment opportunities for students 
  • Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU) students will now have access to job opportunities, thanks to a new pilot project that the Delhi government announced along with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). DSEU and UNICEF have started a ‘Career Awareness Session’ for the students.
  • Delhi’s Skill University has joined hands with Yuvah (Generation Unlimited India) at UNICEF to access employment opportunities, help students become job ready, and listen to and amplify the voice of youth.

States News

  1. Tripura government launched the ‘Earn with Learn’ Scheme 
  • The Tripura government has launched a new scheme named ‘Learn with Learn’ to bring back people who have dropped out of schools after the outbreak of Kovid-19. This scheme is a part of ‘Vidyalaya Chalo Abhiyan’ (Let’s go to school).
  • The government attempted to bring back school dropouts in 2020 by implementing the Vidyalaya Chalo Abhiyan, which was first launched in 2009 but was unable to make any progress due to the pandemic. Around 9,000 students aged 6 to 14 dropped out of school during the pandemic.
  1. Uttarakhand becomes the first state in India to implement NEP at the pre-primary level 
  • Uttarakhand has become the first state in the country to initiate the process of implementing the Centre’s New Education Policy.
  • Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has initiated this process by inaugurating ‘Bal Vatikas’ at Anganwadi Kendra across the state to strengthen the pre-primary education system.
  • The NEP replaces the Macaulay system of education which was followed in the country for decades. “It offers children an opportunity to pursue choice-based education. They can now study the subjects of their choice in the language they are conversant with.

  1. Bliv. Club and WIOM collaborate with Shikhar Dhawan for the first metaverse sports metropolis 
  • Shikhar Dhawan, an Indian cricketer, announced a partnership with web3 metaverse startup WIOM and financial firm Bliv. Club to build the first sports city in the Metaverse. It is planned to launch in September.
  • The global sports market is projected to expand from $354.96 billion in 2021 to $501.43 billion in 2022 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 41.3 percent. At a CAGR of 9%, the games market is projected to reach $707.84 billion by 2026.
  1. Rohit Sharma sets a world record and becomes the first captain to win 13 straight T20I matches
  • India captain Rohit Sharma became the first captain in cricket history to win 13 consecutive T20 matches. This feat was made by Rohit in the first T20I of Southampton’s three-match series against England.
  • Rohit Sharma led the Men in Blue to victories over New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka, and now England after taking over as captain from Virat Kohli.
  1. India bagged 22 medals in Asian U-20 Wrestling Championships in Manama, Bahrain 
  • Indian grapplers had a fantastic outing at the U20 Asian Wrestling Championships in Manama, Bahrain where they won as many as 22 medals that concluded.
  • Winning 4 gold medals, 9 silver, and 9 bronze, the talented bunch of grapplers put up a good show and gave a stiff fight to worthy competitors from Iran and Kazakhstan, among other strong nations.

  1. Padma Shri awardee noted social worker Avdhash Kaushal passes away 
  • Padma Shri winner Eminent Social Activist Awadh Kaushal passed away recently after a prolonged illness. He was 87 years old. He was the founder of the NGO called Rural Litigation and Rights Center (based in Dehradun, Uttarakhand).
  • He was known for his fight against human rights and the protection of the environment. Kaushal was close to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
  1. Luis Echeverria, former president of Mexico, dies at 100 
  • As told by his son Benito Echeveria, Luis Echeveria Alvarez, who presided over Mexico from 1970 to 1976, died at the age of 100. Echeverria died at his home in Cuernavaca, the state capital of Morelos, in south-central Mexico.
  • The former leader’s family and friends received a tweet from Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador, in which they offered their respectful condolences.
