  1. IIT-Kanpur launches technology innovation hub to find cyber security solutions for anti-drones technologies
  • Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) has launched a technology innovation center named ‘C3i Hub’ to find cyber security solutions for anti-drone technologies, intrusion detection systems, blockchain and cyber physical systems .
  • IIT Kanpur’s C3iHub is committed to creating a vibrant ecosystem of cyber security start-ups promoting world class innovations.
  • About 13 start-ups and 25 research and development principal investigators were selected after a rigorous application process to set up a start-up group in cyber security.
  • Now with C3iHub, these start-ups will innovate to disrupt the cyber security sector, focusing on the design and development of services and products to protect India’s critical infrastructure.

International News

  1. Bangladesh set to develop alternative social media platform for Facebook and Whatsapp
  • The Government of Bangladesh is working to develop a social media platform named ‘Jogajog’.
  • This platform will work as an alternative to Facebook.
  • The basic objective of launching this platform is to help local entrepreneurs to create their own marketplace for sharing information and data without relying on any foreign platform.
  • Apart from this, the government is also working on developing a communication app named ‘Alapan’ as an alternative to Whatsapp.

Banking News

  1. RBI raises loan limit of other bank directors to Rs 5 crore from Rs 25 lakh
  • The Reserve Bank of India has raised the limit of loans that can be given by a bank to any director or associates of other banks to Rs 5 crore without the approval of the board. Earlier this limit was Rs 25 lakh.
  • However, for loans above Rs 5 crore, banks should not grant loans and advances, unless approved by the Board of Directors or the Management Committee.
  • The new regulations will apply to:
  • Bank Directors, including the Chairman/Managing Director, of other banks, any firm in which they are interested as a partner or guarantor, or any company in which they hold substantial interest or is interested as a director or as a guarantor.
  • All scheduled commercial banks, except regional rural banks, small finance banks and all local area banks.
  • The revised limit will be applicable only to personal loans disbursed to any director of other banks, relatives of the bank’s own directors, relatives of directors of other banks and companies or firms associated with them.
  • RBI has revised this loan limit for the first time in 26 years. A limit of Rs.25 lakh was set in 1996.

  1. Mirabai Chanu Wins Silver to open India’s medal tally at the Tokyo Olympics
  • India’s ace weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has claimed a silver medal in the women’s 49kg category at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on July 24, 2021.
  • This is the first medal for India in the ongoing Olympic Games in Tokyo.
  • Chanu, 26, lifted a total of 202 kg (87 kg in snatch and 115 kg in clean and jerk).
  • Zhihui Hou of China won the gold medal by lifting a total of 210 kg. Along with this, he also set a new Olympic record.
  • Indonesia’s Windy Kentika Ayesha won the bronze medal with a total of 194kg.
