Digital India completes six years

The Digital India initiative has completed its six years on 1 July 2021. Digital India is the flagship scheme of the government to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy.
It was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1 July 2015. In the last 6 years, the government has launched several digital initiatives like Direct Benefit Transfer, Common Service Center, DigiLocker and mobile-based UMANG services.
With the help of Aadhaar, the government has provided digital identity to 129 crore people of India. Jan Dhan bank accounts, mobile phones and Aadhaar (JAM) helped the government in providing benefits of various schemes through digital platforms.

Andhra CM launches ‘YSR Bima’ scheme

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has launched the ‘YSR Bima’ scheme with new guidelines, where the government itself will pay the sum insured directly to the family of the deceased to ease insurance claims.
To support 1.32 lakh families through the YSR Bima Yojana, the state government allocated Rs 750 crore for the year 2021-22. In the last two years, the state government has spent Rs 1307 crore for YSR insurance.

World Bank increases coronavirus vaccine funding to $20 billion

The World Bank has announced an additional $8 billion funding for COVID-19 vaccines for developing countries. With this, the total funding available for a COVID-19 vaccine reaches $20 billion.
Earlier the World Bank had announced $12 billion for this. This funding will be used over the next 18 months till the end of 2022.
World Bank Group President David Malpass has also called on countries with surplus doses to release it for use by developing countries and urged vaccine manufacturers to prioritize the doses available to such developing countries. which are urgently needed.
In addition, the bank provided over $4 billion to purchase and deploy COVID vaccines to 51 developing countries, half of which are in Africa.
