  1. DRDO Successfully Test Fires Enhanced Pinaka Rocket Off Odisha Coast
  • Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully test-fired the extended range version of the indigenously developed Pinaka rocket on June 24 and 25, 2021.
  • The rockets were launched from a Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) at Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.
  • The enhanced range version of Pinaka Rocket System can destroy targets at distances up to 45 kms.
  • 25 Enhanced Pinaka Rockets were launched in quick succession against different range targets.
  • The Pinaka Rocket system has been developed jointly by Pune based Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) with manufacturing support from M/s Economic Explosives Limited, Nagpur.
  1. Indore and Surat Jointly Wins Smart Cities Award 2020; Uttar Pradesh Bags Best State Award
  • The results for India Smart Cities Awards Contest (ISAC) 2020 were released on June 25, 2021. The award was organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under the Smart Cities Mission project of the Union Government.
  • The Smart City awards were given across different themes, which are, Social Aspects, Governance, Culture, Urban Environment, Sanitation, Economy, Built Environment, Water, Urban Mobility

  1. JSCA Inks Lease Agreement with SAIL Bokaro Steel Plant to Construct International Cricket Stadium
  • Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SAIL Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) for the construction of an International Cricket Stadium in Bokaro city.
  • Once the stadium is ready, Bokaro will become the third city in Jharkhand to have an international cricket stadium after Jamshedpur and Ranchi.
  • The MoU is a lease agreement under which Bokaro Steel Plant will transfer 20.17 acres of its land to JSCA for 33 years, for the construction of an international cricket stadium in Balidih area of Bokaro.
  • The proposed stadium will also be the first stadium to be constructed in SAIL township.

Banking & Economy News

  1. PAN-Aadhaar Linking Deadline Further Extended till September, 30 2021
  • The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has once again extended the deadline for mandatory linking of Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar number by three months to September 30, 2021.
  • Earlier this deadline was June, 30 2021.
  • The extension has been done keeping in mind the difficulties arising out of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, so as to provide relief to those who still have not linked their PAN with Aadhaar due to mismatch in details.
  • It is to be noted that as per section 139AA of the Income Tax Act 1961, every person who has PAN as on 1st July 2017 and is eligible to obtain Aadhaar, must link PAN with Aadhaar.
  1. Ind-Ra revises India’s GDP growth rate for FY22 at 9.6%
  • India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra) has projected India’s GDP growth rate at 9.6 per cent for the fiscal year 2012 (2021–22).
  • Earlier this was estimated at 10.1 percent by the rating agency.

  1. Amazon’s AWS Acquires Encrypted Messaging App Wickr
  • Amazon has acquired ‘Wickr’, an American instant messaging app to offer secure communications for businesses, government agencies and individuals moving to a hybrid work environment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The Wickr app has been acquired by Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing unit of Amazon.com Inc., for an undisclosed amount.
  • Wickr is an encrypted messaging services, founded in 2012, and primarily used by the government agencies in the United States.
  • It must be noted that Wickr offers most secure, end-to-end encrypted, communication technology, with advanced security features, that are not available with traditional communications services across messaging, voice and video calling, file sharing, and collaboration.

  • The United Nations Day for Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises is organized from 27 June 2017 to celebrate the work of MSMEs in local and global economies and their contribution to sustainable development.
