Indonesia’s Mount Merapi volcano erupts, covering villages in ash

Mount Merapi, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, erupted, sending smoke and ash spreading over villages near the crater.
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency said there were no immediate reports of casualties.
Images circulated showed houses and streets covered in ash in a village near the volcano in Yogyakarta.

Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway National Highway, Background and Facts

On March 12, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the Bengaluru-Mysore Expressway to the nation.
The 118 km long project will reduce the distance between Bengaluru and Mysuru with travel time from about three hours to just 75 minutes.
The NH-275 section between Bengaluru, Nidaghatta, and Mysuru will be constructed as six-laning as part of the project, with a total development cost of around Rs 8,480 crore.

PM Modi inaugurates the world’s longest railway platform in Hubballi, Karnataka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the world’s longest railway platform of 1.5 km at Sri Siddharoda Railway Station in Hubli in the state of Karnataka.
The platform was inaugurated during the PM’s visit to Karnataka in the presence of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi.
It is to be noted that Indian Railways, South Western Railway Zone Hubli is now registered in the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest platform.

PMLA, 2002 Amended To Include Cryptocurrency Trade

The Finance Ministry has amended the Anti-Money Laundering Act by bringing cryptocurrency and other virtual digital asset trade under its ambit.
This means that exchanges, custodians, and wallet providers, among others, in crypto-related business will come under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The government has imposed anti-money laundering provisions on cryptocurrencies or virtual assets as it tightens the supervision of digital assets.

Ashok Leyland unveils all-women production line at Tamil Nadu plant

Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland has launched an “all women production line” with 100 percent female employees at its Tamil Nadu Hosur plant.
The initiative has been taken to introduce an all-women production line to promote women’s empowerment and encourage them to play a role in the manufacturing industry.

The International Golden City Gate Tourism Awards 2023 in the categories of “TV/Cinema Commercials International and Country International” were won by the Indian Ministry of Tourism and the Government of India, respectively.
As part of a global effort on advertising in the post-Covid period to reopen opportunities in India, the award has been granted to promotional films/television ads made by the Ministry.

The song had to beat out songs such as “Applause” by Tell It Like a Woman, “Hold My Hand” by Top Gun: Maverick, “Lift Me Up” by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and “This Is Life” by Everything Everywhere.

The KK Birla Foundation founded the annual Vyas Samman in 1991, which is awarded to a superb piece of Hindi literature authored by an Indian citizen and published within the previous ten years. A 4 lakh rupee award is offered.
