- NATO leaders declare China a global security challenge
- NATO leaders have declared that China continues to pose a security challenge and is working to undermine the global order.
- It is a message in line with US President Joe Biden’s efforts to speak to allies with a more unified voice against China’s trade, military and human rights practices.
- The NATO leaders said that China’s goals and ‘assertive behaviour present systemic challenges to the rules-based international order and to areas relevant to alliance security.
- The warning to China comes as Biden has stepped up his effort to rally allies to put up a unified voice about China’s human rights record. Biden has also criticized China’s trade practices and its military’s increasingly assertive behaviour that has unnerved US allies in the Pacific.

- Raja Parba- Odisha’s Famous Festival celebrated
- Raja Parba festival is celebrated in Odisha. It is a unique 3 days festival in which the state celebrates the onset of monsoon and the femininity of the earth. It is believed that the Mother Earth or Bhudevi gets menstruation during this period.
- The fourth day is the day of ‘purification bath’. During the 3 days, the women do not work. This festival is synonymous with the varieties (peeths) of cakes.
- Thus, Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) has also launched a special programme named ‘Pitha on Wheels’. Different kinds of pithas such as ‘Poda Pitha’, ‘Manda’, ‘Kakara’, ‘Arisha’, ‘Chakuli’ and ‘Chandrakala’ have been made available on ‘Pitha on Wheels’ (kiosks on wheels).
- These vehicles selling traditional cakes have been kept in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Sambalpur.

- Wholesale inflation hits record high of 12.94% in May
- Wholesale price-based inflation rose to a record high of 12.94 per cent in May on rising crude oil and manufactured goods prices. The lower base effect also contributed to the increase in WPI inflation in May 2021.
- In May 2020, WPI inflation was at (-) 3.37 per cent. In April 2021, WPI inflation hit double-digit at 10.49 per cent.
- The annual rate of inflation, based on monthly WPI, was 12.94 per cent for the month of May 2021 (over May 2020) as compared to (-) 3.37 per cent in May 2020.
- The Office of Economic Adviser, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade is releasing index numbers of Wholesale Price in India (Base Year: 2011-12) for the month of May 2021 (Provisional).

- RBI allows prepaid mobile recharges through Bharat Bill Payment System
- According to RBI, the scope of Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) will be expanded by adding ‘Mobile prepaid recharge as biller category’ till August 31 this year.
- BBPS is an interoperable platform for recurring bill payments operated by the National Payments Corporation of India.
- In May, 213.59 million bill payment transactions were carried out through the BBPS channel. BBPS was started in 2014 as a platform for repetitive bill payments.

- International Day of Family Remittances: 16th June
- The International Day of Family Remittances (IDFR) was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly and is observed on 16 June.
- The IDFR recognizes the more than 200 million migrant workers, women and men, who send money home to over 800 million family members.
- This day further highlights the great resilience of migrant workers in the face of economic insecurities, natural and climate-related disasters and a global pandemic. The first International Day of Family Remittances was celebrated on June 16, 2015.

- Facebook launches ‘Report it, Don’t share it!’ initiative
- Social media giant Facebook has launched a new initiative ‘Report It, Don’t Share It!’ It does not encourage people to report and share child abuse material on its platform.
- The initiative ‘Report It, Not Share It’ is in collaboration with civil society organizations like Aarambh India Initiative, Cyber Peace Foundation and Arpan.
- To report content where a child is at risk, call 1098 and report it to the Childline India Foundation. If content exists on Facebook’s family of apps, it may be reported at fb.me/onlinechildprotection.
- Facebook also partnered with Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia who runs a community ‘Freedom to Feed’ on Instagram, which is a safe space for women to speak about breastfeeding and have an open dialogue about the challenges surrounding it. But the community has evolved to become a space for discussing diverse aspects of parenting too.
