- Sweden’s Prime Minister Stefan Löfven announced his resignation on June 28, 2021, after losing a vote of confidence in parliament.
- Lofven, 63, is the first Swedish government leader to be defeated by a no-confidence vote. He served as the Prime Minister of Sweden since 2014.
- The confidence motion was filed by the far-right Sweden Democrats after the Left Party said it was planning such a motion itself in protest against a plan to ease rent controls.

- The Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman has announced a slew of measures to provide relief to the people and businesses affected by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- The Minister announced a total of 17 measures worth Rs.6,28,993 crore.

- Andhra Pradesh introduces SALT programme
- Andhra Pradesh has launched a Supporting Andhra Learning Transformation (SALT) program to transform basic education in government schools, for which the World Bank has approved a $250 million loan.
- The main objective of the program is to strengthen the foundation schools and provide training and skill development to the teachers. The public school education system of Andhra Pradesh has more than 40 lakh children and about 2 lakh teachers.

- Turkey, Azerbaijan begin joint military drills in Baku

- The exercises involve up to 600 personnel in an effort to improve the allies’ combat interoperability.
- The main purpose of the exercises is to improve the interaction between the two countries’ army units during combat operations, to develop the commanders’ military decision-making skills and their ability to manage military units.

- The Sea Breeze drills, which have taken place 21 times since 1997, will involve some 5,000 military personnel from more than 30 countries. The exercises will last two weeks and involve around 30 ships, including the missile destroyer USS Ross.

- Journalist Palagummi Sainath has been awarded the Fukuoka Grand Prize for 2021. He is a committed journalist who continues to investigate poor farming villages in India and captures the reality of the lifestyles of residents in such areas.
- Established by the Fukuoka City of Japan and the Fukuoka City International Foundation, the award is given to individuals and organizations for their work in the preservation of Asian culture. In addition to the Grand Prize, there are two further award categories, Education and Culture.
- The Academics Prize was given to Professor Kishimoto Mio, a historian from Japan who specialises in the socio-economic history of China in the Ming-Qing period. Thailand-based writer and filmmaker Prabda Yoon received the Arts and Culture Award.

- Deepika Kumari wins Gold Medal at Archery World Cup Stage 3
- The ace Indian archer Deepika Kumari, created a new world record as she claimed three back-to-back gold medals in a single day, during the Archery World Cup Stage 3, held in Paris.
- The Ranchi daughter claimed gold in each of women’s recurve individual, team and mixed pair events. India topped the medals tally with four gold medals. The fourth gold medal came by Abhishek Verma, from men’s individual event in the compound section.
