India re-elected to UN Human Rights Council for new three year term from 2022-2024

India has been re-elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) with an overwhelming majority for a sixth term on October 14, 2021.
India’s new three-year term will be effective from January 2022 to December 2024.
India got 184 votes out of 193 votes cast in the election.
Elections were held for a total of 18 seats and 47 countries needed a minimum of 97 votes to be elected to the UN member council.
UNHRC is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

Chennai Super Kings wins 2021 IPL title

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the finals to win the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) title.
This was the 14th edition of IPL which is an India-based Cricket league in 20-20 format. This was the 4th win of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL, having previously won the tournament in 2010, 2011, and 2018.

The National Security Guard (NSG) force, popularly known as the Black Cats, celebrates its Raising Day every year on 16 October.
The year 2021 marks the 37th anniversary of the establishment of the NSG.
NSG is a specialized counter-terrorism unit under the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs.
Its motto is ‘best security everywhere’.

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty: 17 October

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is observed every year on 17 October across the world.
The day aims to raise awareness of the need for poverty and poverty alleviation around the world, especially in developing countries.
2021 Theme: Moving forward together: Ending persistent poverty, respecting all people and our planet”.

The first International Day for the Eradication of Poverty was held in Paris, France in 1987.
It was officially recognized by UN General Assembly in December 1992.

World Anaesthesia Day 2021
