  1. Singapore and India reach agreement on resumption of passenger flights from November 29
  • Singapore and India have reached an agreement on resumption of scheduled commercial passenger flights between the two countries. Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said that Singapore’s vaccinated travel lane (VTL) with India will start on November 29, with six designated flights daily from Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai.
  • Applications for vaccinated travel passes (VTP) for short-term visitors and long-term pass holders from India will start on Nov 22.
  • Airlines can also operate non-VTL flights between India and Singapore, although passengers on non-VTL flights will be subject to the prevailing public health requirements, CAAS said.

National News

  1. AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announces expansion of NEIAFMR in Arunachal Pradesh
  • Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal has announced the expansion of North Eastern Research Institute of Ayurveda and Folk Medicine (NEIAFMR) at Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh by developing new infrastructure within the campus.
  • This initiative is in line with the vision of developing AYUSH sector in the State and the entire North Eastern Region.
  • An investment of about Rs.53.72 crore would be required for the development of additional infrastructure in NEIAFMR.
  • Under this, a new Ayurveda College with 30 seats and a new Ayurveda Hospital with 60 beds will be established.
  • For this, direct employment for 86 posts will be created
  • NEIAFMR is an autonomous National Institute under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.

  1. India Concludes with 7 medals at 2021 Asian Archery Championships in Dhaka
  • The 2021 Asian Archery Championships was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from November 14, 2021, to November 19, 2021.
  • The Indian archers bagged seven medals at the competition to occupy second place in the medal table. This included one gold, four silver and two bronze medals.

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Geoff Allardyce as the permanent CEO of the international cricket governing body on November 21, 2021.

  • Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes-Great Britain) has won the 2021 F1 Qatar Grand Prix held on November 21, 2021.

  • With this win, Lewis Hamilton has become the first driver to win in 30 different circuits in Formula 1.

  1. Veteran Punjabi Folk Singer Gurmeet Bawa Passes Away at 77
  • Renowned Punjabi folk singer Gurmeet Bawa has passed away after a prolonged illness. She was 77 years old.
  • Gurmeet was known for her long ‘hek’ (the breathless beginning of a Punjabi folk song saying “ho” to create a melodious voice with an unbroken wave), which she could hold for about 45 seconds.
  • She rose to fame after she started performing on Doordarshan and thus became the first Punjabi female singer to be featured on a national television channel.
