  1. Telangana declared top state for having highest number of ODF plus villages
  • According to the latest report of the central government, Telangana has topped the list of most ODF plus villages among all other states of the country under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) Phase-II programme.
  • Telangana reported that 96.74% are ODF plus villages, which means that 13,737 villages out of a total of 14,200 villages were declared ODF plus as of December 31, 2021.
  • Telangana is followed by Tamil Nadu (35.39 percent), Kerala (19.78 percent), Uttarakhand (9.01 percent), Haryana (5.75 percent), Karnataka (5.59 percent) and Andhra Pradesh (4.63 percent).
  • Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, West Bengal, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura and Goa are placed at the bottom of the list with zero progress.
  • Under Phase-II of the nationwide Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), about 26,138 villages out of 5,82,903 villages in the country have been declared ODF by December 31, 2021.

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has included Airtel Payments Bank in the ‘Second Schedule to the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934’ on January 04, 2022.
  • This means that Airtel Payments Bank is now classified as a “Scheduled Commercial Bank”.
  • Airtel Payments Bank can now bid for Request for Proposals (RFP) and primary auctions issued by the government.
  • It can also do business of both the central and state government, and participate in welfare schemes run by the government.

  1. NBBL launched UPMS to simplify recurring bill payments
  • NPCI Bharat BillPay Ltd. (NBBL), the wholly-owned subsidiary of National Payments Corporation of India has introduced a functionality called ‘Unified Presentment Management System’ (UPMS).
  • NBBL through UPMS will enable the customers to set up standing instructions – from any channel and for any mode on their recurring bill payments. The bills will be automatically fetched from the billers and presented to customers for their action, in terms of auto-debit and bill payment management.

  • Olympic triple jump 3-time gold medalist and former world record holder, Viktor Danilovich Sanaev, passed away in Australia.

  • Sindhutai Sapkal was awarded the Padma Shri in the social work category in 2021. Apart from this, he had received more than 750 awards and honors during his lifetime. She has adopted around 2,000 orphans and is the grandmother of more.
