Telangana declared top state for having highest number of ODF plus villages

According to the latest report of the central government, Telangana has topped the list of most ODF plus villages among all other states of the country under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) Phase-II programme.
Telangana reported that 96.74% are ODF plus villages, which means that 13,737 villages out of a total of 14,200 villages were declared ODF plus as of December 31, 2021.
Telangana is followed by Tamil Nadu (35.39 percent), Kerala (19.78 percent), Uttarakhand (9.01 percent), Haryana (5.75 percent), Karnataka (5.59 percent) and Andhra Pradesh (4.63 percent).
Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, West Bengal, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura and Goa are placed at the bottom of the list with zero progress.
Under Phase-II of the nationwide Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), about 26,138 villages out of 5,82,903 villages in the country have been declared ODF by December 31, 2021.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi donated around Rs. Inaugurated 13 projects of The foundation stone of 9 projects worth Rs 1850 crore and approx Rs 2950 crore has been laid on January 04, 2022 during an event organized at Hapta Kangjibang in Imphal, Manipur.

Himachal Pradesh became 1st LPG enabled & smoke free state of the country

Himachal Pradesh became the first LPG enabled state and, at the same time, a smoke free state. This milestone was achieved due to the Ujjwala scheme and Grihini Suvidha Yojana by the Centre.
The government had started the Ujjwala scheme to get rid of smoke. Grihini Suvidha Yojana was launched to help the women of rural areas.
The Ujjwala scheme was launched by the central government with the aim of making the women of the country free from indoor pollution.
Along with this, the Himachal government also started the Grihini Suvidha Yojana to benefit as many women as possible, under the scheme.

RBI Gives Scheduled Bank Status to Airtel Payments Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has included Airtel Payments Bank in the ‘Second Schedule to the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934’ on January 04, 2022.
This means that Airtel Payments Bank is now classified as a “Scheduled Commercial Bank”.
Airtel Payments Bank can now bid for Request for Proposals (RFP) and primary auctions issued by the government.
It can also do business of both the central and state government, and participate in welfare schemes run by the government.

NBBL launched UPMS to simplify recurring bill payments

NPCI Bharat BillPay Ltd. (NBBL), the wholly-owned subsidiary of National Payments Corporation of India has introduced a functionality called ‘Unified Presentment Management System’ (UPMS).
NBBL through UPMS will enable the customers to set up standing instructions – from any channel and for any mode on their recurring bill payments. The bills will be automatically fetched from the billers and presented to customers for their action, in terms of auto-debit and bill payment management.

UPMS will be available to customers through the centralized infrastructure and application support provided by Bharat BillPay Central Unit (BBPCU).

World Day of War Orphans 2022: History and Significance

World War Orphans Day is observed on 6 January to create awareness about the plight of children who have lost their parents due to conflict. In any conflict, children are one of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable groups that exist.
Children who have been injured in gun battles or separated from their families need special care to heal the wounds of war, start school, and resume normal life.
World War Orphans Day was initiated by the French organization SOS Enfants en Detresses, with the main objective of helping children affected by conflict. According to the United Nations Children‘s Fund (UNICEF), an orphan is defined as “a child under the age of 18 who has lost one or both parents by any cause of death”.

3-time Olympic Gold winning Triple Jump Champion Viktor Saneyev passes away

Olympic triple jump 3-time gold medalist and former world record holder, Viktor Danilovich Sanaev, passed away in Australia.
He was one of the third tallest players to have represented the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) at the Olympic Games. He later worked as a coach in Australia. He won gold medals at the 1969 Athens and the 1974 European Games held in Rome.

Sindhutai Sapkal popular as ‘Mother of Orphans’ passes away

Social activist Sindhutai Sapkal, fondly known as the ‘Mother of Orphans’, passed away on January 04, 2022 at the age of 73 due to a heart attack. She was also known simply as ‘Sindhutai’ or ‘My’
Sindhutai Sapkal was awarded the Padma Shri in the social work category in 2021. Apart from this, he had received more than 750 awards and honors during his lifetime. She has adopted around 2,000 orphans and is the grandmother of more.
She was from Maharashtra. A biopic on her life “Mee Sindhutai Sapkal” was released in the year 2010.

Captain Harpreet Chandi, Indian-origin British Sikh Army officer and physiotherapist, also known as Polar Preet, has created history by becoming the first woman of color to complete a single unsupported trek to the South Pole.
Captain Chandy ended 40 days after traveling 700 miles (1,127 km) pulling a bridge or sled with all his kit and battling temperatures of minus 50 °C and wind speeds of about 60 mph. History has been announced.
