  1. PM Modi lays foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in UP’s Meerut district
  • The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, laid the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh on January 02, 2022.
  • This will be the first sports university of Uttar Pradesh.
  • The university is being established in Salwa and Kali villages of Sardhana town of Meerut.
  • The estimated cost of setting up the university is around Rs 700 crore.
  1. IIT Madras Tops Atal Rankings (ARIIA) 2021 for third straight year
  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras has retained the top spot in the ‘Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements’ (ARIIA) 2021 for being the best centrally funded institute in India.
  • The premier institute has topped the list of top centrally funded innovative educational institutions in India for the third consecutive year.
  • IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IT Kanpur and IIT Roorkee are among the top five centrally funded institutions in the list respectively.
  • The 2021 ‘Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) was released by Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar on December 29, 2021.
  1. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launches 100 days reading campaign ‘Padhe Bharat’

  • The Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan has launched ‘Padhe Bharat’, a 100 days (14 weeks) reading campaign. The campaign has been organised from January 01, 2022 to April 10, 2022.
  • Padhe Bharat is in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
  • It will emphasise on promotion of joyful reading culture for children as well as ensure availability of age appropriate reading books for children in local/mother tongue/regional/tribal Language.
  • The International Mother Tongue Day (21 February ) has also been integrated with this campaign to encourage children to read in their mother tongue/local language.
  • An activity named Kahani Padho Apni Bhasa Main (Reading story in own language) will be organised on this day across the country to promote local language and culture of our society.

  1. SEBI reconstitutes advisory committee on market data; Head- S Sahoo
  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has reconstituted its advisory committee on market data.
  • The 20-member committee recommends policy measures related to areas such as securities market data access and privacy.
  • S Sahu, former chairman of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) and professor at the National Law University, Delhi, is the new head of the panel.
  • Earlier this panel was headed by Madhabi Puri Buch, a former whole-time member of SEBI.

  1. Jawaharlal Nehru Road renamed as ‘Narendra Modi Marg’
  • Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad has named the new road as Narendra Modi Marg. The governor saw the road below Kabi Lungchok, 4 miles from Kyongsala. It is an alternative to Jawaharlal Nehru Marg.
  • The National Memorial on National Highway 310 was built by the Border Roads Organisation. It will be easy for Indian tourists to reach Nathula border. This section, constructed by the Border Roads Organisation, has reduced the distance between Gangtok and Tsomgo Lake by 15 km.
  1. 1st electric boat built for Kochi Water Metro Project
  • In Kerala, the first battery-powered electric boat built for the Kochi Water Metro Project was handed over to the Kochi Metro Rail Limited. The fully air-conditioned boat is among the 23 boats being built by the Cochin Shipyard for the 747-crore rupee Kochi Water Metro project.
  • Kochi Water Metro system will have 78 ferries, linking 38 terminals spread over 76 route kilometres. The battery-powered water metro boat can carry 100 passengers. KMRL said it was for the first time in the world a centrally controlled integrated water transport system with a large fleet is powered by the battery.
