Impacts of Europe’s Extreme Winter Heat Wave Visible From Space

New satellite imagery reveals the effects of Europe’s ‘winter heat’ in the thick of the continent’s winter skiing season. A photo posted by the European Union’s Copernicus Program shows a lack of snow around the Swiss town of Altdorf, which is close to skiing resorts.
In Altdorf, the temperature reached 66.5 °F (19.2 °C) on New Year’s Day and did not drop below 60.9 °F (16.1 °C) during the night, breaking the previous record set in 1864. Warsaw in Poland also hit 66°. F (18.9°C), breaking its own January record by more than 9°F (5°C).
The new satellite image was taken by Sentinel 2, one of the Earth observation satellites that make up the Copernicus program. According to the program, 2023 has begun with a historic heatwave’ affecting Europe, with many countries seeing their hottest temperatures on record on January 1, likely caused by human-caused climate change.

India Identifies two Lithium and one Copper mine in Argentina for a Possible Acquisition

The Indian government has announced that they have identified two lithium mines and one copper mine in Argentina and they are moving forward to acquire or take a long-term lease.
The Indian government said that they had sent a team of geologists to Argentina in the month of November 2022 to assess and find potential lithium deposits. They have been able to identify a possible source of lithium and copper deposits in the South American country.
Khanij Bidesh India Limited (Kabil) will have the right to own or lease the mines. National Aluminum Company (NALCO), is a joint venture between Hindustan Copper (HCL) and Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited. It was established in 2019 to ensure that India has market access to strategic minerals.

Tamil Nadu Governor Inaugurated Octave 2023 at Thanjavur

Octave 2023 is a festival being held under the aegis of the South Zone Culture Centre, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu to showcase the indigenous art and culture of Northeast India. Octave 2023 was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi.
The Governor of Tamil Nadu said that the perspective of the nation towards the Northeast has changed with the passage of time and the state have involved in the growth stories of India. The Northeast is moving towards development and advancement and is bubbling with capacities and aspirations.
The Governor noted that the people of the Northeast are the most talented, innocent, emotional full of energy, and enthusiastic.
People of the Northeast bound with culture, art, and spirituality have been resourceful in contributing to the nation’s development.

World’s first Palm-leaf Manuscript Museum in Kerala capital

Kerala Chief Minister (CM) Pinarayi Vijayan has inaugurated the Palm Leaf Manuscript Museum with modern audio-visual technology at the renovated Central Archives, Fort area in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
The museum, which was promoted as “the world’s first palm-leaf manuscript museum”, was set up by the Archives Department in collaboration with the Kerala Museum of History and Heritage at a cost of Rs 3 crore.
The museum is a repository of interesting nuggets of the administrative, socio-cultural, and economic aspects of the Travancore Kingdom, which lasted for 650 years till the end of the 19th century. It was the Central Vernacular Records Office from 1887 before it became a museum.

Bandhan Bank launched the campaign ‘Jahan Bandhan, Vahan Trust’ with Sourav Ganguly, the brand ambassador of the bank. ‘Jahan Bandhan, Vahan Trust’ is an integrated marketing campaign wherein the company emphasizes the ‘trust’ that the brand has been able to earn over a period of seven years as a bank.
The Bank’s marketing campaign will have a 360-degree approach across TV, Print, OOH, Cinema, and Digital media.
The campaign first went live on digital media and will go live on other media in a few days.
The campaign draws parallels with the career of Sourav Ganguly, who became a customer of the bank soon after it was launched seven years ago.

Assam Govt announces recipients of highest civilian awards of Assam for 2022-23

The recipients of the state’s top civilian honors for 2022-2023 were revealed by the Assam government. The Government of Assam presented the awards in the categories Assam Baibhav, Assam Sourav, and Assam Gaurav.
Dr. Tapan Saikia will receive the Assam Baibhav, the highest civilian honor the Assam government can bestow.
The Asom Baibhav Award will be given to Dr. Tapan Saikia for his efforts in raising cancer awareness and encouraging early detection in Assam and other North Eastern regions.
At Prince Eli Khan Hospital, Mumbai, Dr. Tapan Saikia is currently the Director of Research and Head of Medical Oncology.

Pranesh M became India’s 79th Grandmaster, having completed his three norms prior to this event. IM Pranesh M emerged as the winner of the Rilton Cup, the first tournament of the FIDE Circuit.
The 16-year-old from India seeded 22nd, made a clean sweep of the field in Stockholm, winning eight games and finishing a full point ahead of IM Kaan Kucuksari (Sweden) and GM Nikita Meshkovs (Latvia).
The 2022/2023 Rilton Cup, the strongest open tournament in Sweden, ran from December 27 to January 5 and brought together 136 players representing 29 national federations. Pranesh M is now the early leader of the FIDE Circuit with 6.8 circuit points that he gets for this victory. The one who accumulates the most points by the end of the year qualifies for the 2024 FIDE Candidates.

Belinda Clark becomes the first women cricketer to have a statue cast at Sydney Cricket Ground

Australia’s Belinda Clarke has become the first female cricketer to have a statue erected in her honor, with a bronze bust of the former captain unveiled outside the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Clarke played 15 Tests and over 100 limited-overs matches between 1991–2005 and became the first cricketer to score a double century in One Day Internationals when she scored 229 not out against Denmark in 1997.
The 52-year-old’s statue stands alongside Richie Benaud, Fred Spofforth, Stan McCabe, and Steve Waugh as cricketers honored with statues at the SCG complex. On the field. His bronze cast now houses former captains Richard Benaud and Steve Waugh.

Odisha CM Patnaik inaugurates Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday inaugurated one of India’s biggest hockey stadiums in Rourkela ahead of the Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 261 crore, this stadium, located in Sundergarh district, has been named Birsa. Munda Hockey Stadium Complex.
It has been built over 50 acres in a record time of 15 months with a seating capacity of 20,000. The stadium also has practice centers with certified turf and lighting. The state has also built a World Cup village, which has 225 rooms for players and officials to stay within nine months.

World Day of War Orphans 2023: History and Significance

The World Day of War Orphans is observed on January 6 every year with an aim to raise awareness about children orphaned in wars.

The first orphanage in the world to support widows and orphans of war was established by the Romans in 400 A.D.
