  1. Nearly 600 sea lions died due to the bird flu outbreak in Peru
  • Peru has reported the deaths of 585 sea lions and 55,000 wild birds in recent weeks due to the H5N1 bird flu virus.
  • The Sernap Natural Areas Conservation Agency said that after discovering 55,000 dead birds in eight protected coastal areas, rangers found bird flu had killed them, which also claimed 585 sea lions in seven protected marine areas.
  • Sernap said in a statement that the dead birds included pelicans, different types of gulls, and penguins. Laboratory tests also confirmed the presence of H5N1 in the dead sea lions, prompting officials to announce a “biological vigilance protocol”.
  • For its part, Peru’s National Forest and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) urged people and their pets to avoid contact with sea lions and seabirds at the beach.

  1. Dept of Integrative Medicine Inaugurated at Safdarjung Hospital by Union Health Minister
