‘Partners in the Blue Pacific’: New program started by US and Allies

The US and its allies, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and the United Kingdom, have launched a new initiative called Partners in the Blue Pacific for effective and efficient cooperation with the region’s small island nations in response to China’s aggressive push to expand its sphere of influence in the Pacific.
After China pushed for a broad, common cooperation pact with 10 Pacific states, it became obvious the planned extent of its expanding influence and the geostrategic competition in the region increased.

The UK announces 75 scholarships for Indian students in the 75th year of Independence

The United Kingdom government has announced a partnership with leading businesses in India to offer 75 fully-funded scholarships for Indian students to study in the UK from September, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of India’s independence.
Additionally, the British Council in India is offering around 18 scholarships for women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) covering over 12,000 courses across more than 150 UK universities.
The programs on offer include Chevening scholarships for a one-year Master’s program, with the opportunity to study any subject at a UK university.

Dak Karmayogi E-learning Platform launched by the Government

Dak Karmayogi, an e-learning portal of the Department of Posts, was launched by Shri Ashwini Vaishnav, Minister of Communications, Railways, Electronics and IT, and Shri Devusinh Chouhan, Minister of State for Communications.
The ceremony was held on 28 June 2022 at the Stein Auditorium Indian Habitat Center.
This portal is developed under the vision of Mission Karmayogi which was launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi with a vision to bring efficiency in the work of all the employees of the Government of India and replace the efficiency of bureaucracy with minimum government and maximum governance.

Uddhav Thackeray resigns as Maharashtra CM

Uddhav Thackeray has resigned from the post of Chief Minister of Maharashtra. This comes soon after the Supreme Court refused to stay the Maharashtra Governor’s direction to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to hold a floor test in the assembly.
Late in the evening, Mr. Thackeray submitted his resignation to Mr. Bhagat Singh Koshyari at the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. The Governor accepted Mr. Thackeray’s resignation and asked him to serve as Chief Minister till alternative arrangements were made.

U23 Asian Wrestling Championships 2022: Deepak Punia won bronze

Tokyo Olympian Deepak Punia won the bronze medal by defeating Maksat Satyabaldi (Kyrgyzstan) in the 86kg freestyle weight category at the U23 Asian Wrestling Championships 2022 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Despite a win, it was an ineffective result on their part as the Indian contingent was expecting a better performance in the tournament than the World Championships silver medalist.

Novak Djokovic becomes 1st player to win 80 matches in all four Grand Slams

Novak Djokovic became the first player in history to win 80 matches in all four Grand Slams when he defeated Kwon Soon-woo 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Centre Court his 80th win in Wimbledon.
By virtue of his victory, the former world no.1 tennis player has created history by winning his 80th match at the Wimbledon. The six-time champion has become the first male player in the Open Era to win 80 or more matches at all four grand slams.

National Statistics Day 2022: 29 June

National Statistics Day is celebrated every year on 29 June in India. The day aims to raise public awareness about the value of statistics in everyday life as well as in the planning and development process.
Eminent statistician, Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis is recognized for his contribution to economic planning and statistics on National Statistics Day.
Additionally, the founder of the Indian Statistical Institute, Professor PC Mahalanobis, celebrates his birthday on 29 June. The theme of National Statistics Day 2022 is ‘Data for Sustainable Development.

International Day of Parliamentarism 2022: 30 June

Every year 30 June is observed as International Parliamentary Day to commemorate the date of the establishment of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The IPU, founded in Paris in 1889, is an international organization of national parliaments to promote democratic governance, accountability, and cooperation among its members.
In 2022, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its member parliaments will mark International Parliamentary Day under the theme of public engagement.
The International Day of Parliamentarianism is observed every year on 30 June, the date on which the IPU was founded in 1889. The day was established in 2018 through a United Nations General Assembly resolution.

World Asteroid Day (also known as International Asteroid Day) is an annual United Nations-sanctioned global awareness campaign event observed on 30 June, the anniversary of the Siberian Tunguska event of 1908.

Olympic Medallist and Hockey World Cup winner Varinder Singh passes away

Indian hockey legend and member of the 1975 World Cup gold medal-winning team Varinder Singh passed away. He was 75 years old. Singh was part of the Indian team that won the gold medal at the Men’s Hockey World Cup in Kuala Lumpur in 1975.
Singh was also part of the bronze medal-winning team at the 1972 Munich Olympics and the silver medal at the 1973 World Cup in Amsterdam. In 2007, Varinder was honored with the prestigious Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award.

India promises International community to protect 30% of land and water

India gave the international community the reassurance that it will keep to its goal of protecting at least 30% of “our” lands, waters, and oceans by 2030 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
India’s Minister for Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh, made the following remarks on behalf of the country at the UN Ocean Conference in Lisbon: Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, all efforts are being made to achieve the 30×30 target in a mission mode as per the COP resolutions.
He stated that his purpose in attending the UN summit was to share Modi’s vision for protecting and sustaining the ocean and its resources with the rest of the globe.
