- Pakistan May Take Out of FATF Grey List
- Pakistan is likely to come out of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) gray list after being placed in the Notorious category since 2018 for failing to investigate money laundering and terrorist financing, a media report said.
- The Paris-based global watchdog on money laundering and terrorist financing said the first FATF plenary under T. Raja Kumar’s two-year Singapore presidency will take place on October 20-21.
- ‘SARANG – The Festival of India in the Republic of Korea’
- The 8th edition of the annual flagship cultural program of the Embassy of India, Seoul ‘SARANG– The Festival of India in the Republic of Korea’ will be held from Sept. 30 through Oct. 14, 2022, in offline mode at various locations across the country after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19 pandemic.
- Starting in 2015, SARANG has emerged as a prominent Indian cultural festival, introducing India’s colorful and diverse heritage and has, since then, grown in size, scale, and popularity, promoting India’s soft power in its truest sense and contributing to its rich civilizational legacy and cultural vibrancy.
- The word SARANG has a very meaningful interpretation for both Koreans and Indians. SARANG in Korean means ‘love’ and for Indians, it refers to ‘diversity representing different colors of India’.
- As a part of this festival, it is our endeavor to showcase the rich cultural diversity of India represented through various art forms including dance, drama, music, films, and cuisine. - Union Cabinet Approves MSP Hike for All Mandated Rabi Crops
- The Union Cabinet approved an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all Rabi crops for the marketing season 2023-24. With the highest increase of Rs 500 per quintal, the increase in the prices of lentils has been approved. The MSP on wheat has been increased by Rs 110 and that on barley by Rs 100.
- Information and Broadcasting Minister, Anurag Singh Thakur said that the increase is in line with the Union Budget 2018-19, in which the MSP has been announced to be fixed at a level a minimum of 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production.

- Kati Bihu 2022: Significance, Date, and Time
- Kati Bihu is an auspicious festival of Assam which is a harvest festival. It is celebrated on 18 October 2022 and this day marks the first day of the month of Kati according to the Assamese calendar. Kati Bihu usually falls every day in October.
- Kati Bihu also known as Kongali Bihu marks an important stage in the life of farmers in Assam. It marks the new beginning of the harvest season and the shifting of rice plants.
- A total of three Bihus are celebrated in Assam which is related to agriculture. Kati Bihu is one of the harvest festivals of Assam and the other two mark the major harvest dates. Kati means cutting and refers to the time of year when granaries are usually empty and there is not much to eat at this time of year.

- KBL Centenary Deposit Scheme launched: Karnataka Bank has launched a term deposit scheme named the KBL Centenary Deposit Scheme with effect from October 17, 2022. In order to honor the amazing journey towards its Centenary and to thank its customers, the bank has created a special term deposit program with a higher rate of interest.
- For a period of 555 days, the KBL Centenary Deposit Scheme will enjoy an interest rate of 7.20% p.a. Senior citizens will pay an interest rate of 7.60% annually.

- Serbian scientists name beetle after the country’s tennis star Novak Djokovic
- Serbian scientists have named a new species of beetle after tennis player Novak Djokovic, a Serbian tennis player, due to its speed, strength, flexibility, durability, and ability to survive in tough environments.
- The new species of beetle belongs to the genus Duvalius which is present in Europe. It was discovered many years ago in an underground crater in western Serbia. The insect is a specialized subterranean Coleoptera beetle, a predator that lost its eyes deep underground.
- Qatar to host AFC Asian Cup 2023
- The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Executive Committee has confirmed the Qatar Football Association (QFA) as the host association for the AFC Asian Cup 2023. The 11th AFC Executive Committee meeting was chaired by AFC President Shaikh Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa.
- Qatar is the reigning AFC Asian Cup Champions and will be hosting the most prestigious men’s tournament for the third time.
- The AFC Executive Committee also deliberated upon the bidding proposals for the AFC Asian Cup 2027.
- It shortlisted the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Saudi Football Federation (SAFF) as the final two bidders.
- Football Australia withdrew from the AFC Asian Cup 2023 bidding process on 1st September 2022.
- Irish prof Bernard Dunne is Indian boxing’s new high-performance director
- Former Irish professional boxer Bernard Dunne has been named the high-performance director (HPD) for Indian boxing. Dunne, who had a five-year (2017-2022) stint with the Irish Athletic Boxing Association, replaces Santiago Nieva.
- During Dunne’s tenure with the Ireland team, Kellie Harrington emerged as World (2018, Delhi) and Olympic (2021, Tokyo) champion, while Amy Broadhurst and Lisa O’Rourke won golds at this year’s World Championships in Istanbul and Aidan Walsh secured a bronze at the Tokyo Olympics.
- The 42-year-old Dunne, who has bagged 13 national titles, has joined the Indian boxing elite program at Patiala. He has won the WBA World Championship (2009) and the European Championship (2007) and will take over the position which was left vacant after Santiago Nieva’s departure.

- The 66th edition of the Ballon d’Or ceremony (2022) was held on 17 October 2022 at the Théâtre du Châtelet. Paris, France. Karim Benzema has become only the second player, apart from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, to win the award since 2008.

- Geographical Indication tag sought for nihonshu from Japan
- This is the first time a product from Japan has applied for a tag at the Geographical Indication Registry in Chennai. The Embassy of Japan, New Delhi has filed an application seeking a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Nihonshu/Japanese, an alcoholic beverage. It is learned that this is the first time a product from Japan has applied for a tag in the Geographical Indication Registry here.
- Nihonshu is considered a special and valuable drink made by fermenting rice. People traditionally drink Nihonshu on special occasions such as festivals, weddings, or funerals, but it is also consumed on a daily basis. Thus, it is an integral part of the lifestyle and culture in Japan.
