International News

1. The US recognized McMahon Line as an international border

• A bipartisan resolution was passed by the US formally recognizing the McMahon Line as the international border between China and India’s Arunachal Pradesh.
• The resolution rejected China’s claim that the state belonged to its territory and instead recognized Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India.
• Furthermore, the resolution expressed support for India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

2. India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline to be jointly inaugurated by PM Modi and Sheikh Hasina

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina, will inaugurate the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline via video conference.
• It is the first such pipeline through which refined diesel will be supplied to Bangladesh from India.
• The project is built under grant assistance from the government of India.
• The project involves the construction of a 130-kilometer-long pipeline that will connect Siliguri in West Bengal and Parbatipur in the Dinajpur district of Bangladesh.
• Of the total stretch, six-kilometer will be on the Indian side and the remaining 124 kilometers will be in Bangladesh. The Indian leg of the pipeline project will be implemented by Assam-based Numaligarh Refinery Limited and the Bangladeshi leg will be implemented by Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation.

3. ICC issues arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin over Ukraine war crimes

• The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin over the forced relocation of children in Russia following the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine.
• Ukrainians accuse Russia of attempting genocide against them and trying to destroy their identity – partly by sending children to Russia.
• The ICC issued a warrant for Putin’s arrest on suspicion of the illegal deportation of children and illegal transfer of people from the territory of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.

• Ordnance Factory Day 2023: In India, Ordnance Factory Day is observed annually on 18 March to mark the establishment of the first Ordnance Factory by the British at Cossipore, Kolkata in 1801 during colonial rule.
• The Ministry of Defense celebrates this day by hoisting the Indian flag, singing the national anthem, and displaying various guns and military equipment used by the Indian Armed Forces to the public.
• Ordnance Factories is a government branch responsible for the research, development, testing, production, and marketing of weapons for the military.

6. Irani Cup 2022-23 final: Rest of India crowned champions

• Team Rest of India continued their dominance in the final of the Irani Cup 2022/23, winning their 30th title in the Indian domestic tournament.
• He defeated Madhya Pradesh by 238 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who showed excellent batting skills in both innings, was adjudged Player of the Match.
• He scored a double century and a century in two innings, contributing significantly to ROI’s victory.

7. Sivasankari, the Renowned Tamil Writer, was Honored with Saraswati Samman 2022

• The KK Birla Foundation has announced that Tamil writer Sivasankari will be the recipient of the prestigious Saraswati Samman award for the year 2022, for her 2019 memoir, Surya Vamsam.
• This award is one of the most esteemed recognitions in Indian literature and comes with a cash prize of Rs 15 lakh, a plaque, and a citation.
• Sivasankari is a prolific writer with a career spanning over 50 years, during which she has written 36 novels, 48 novellas, 150 short stories, 15 travelogues, seven collections of essays, and three biographies, including one on former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
• Her literary contributions have been widely recognized, and her works have been translated into several Indian languages, as well as English, Japanese, and Ukrainian.
