  1. India embarks on the ‘World’s Largest’ Film Restoration Project 
  • Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said that an amount of Rs 363 crore has been earmarked for the world’s biggest film restoration project under the National Film Heritage Mission.
  • The mission was launched in 2016 with a cost outlay of Rs 597 crore. The main objective of which is to preserve, restore and digitize the cinematic heritage. Anurag Thakur in his statement said that the process of restoring more than 5900 short films, documentaries, and features is underway.
  • He added that the exercise, conducted by the National Film Archive of India, proves to be one of the largest restoration, preservation, conservation, and digitization process in the world.
  • The Minister held a meeting to review the working of the Film and Television Institute of India, FTII, and deliberated in-depth on the vision to take FTII to international standards of excellence. Shri Thakur said in the meeting that FTII should nurture entrepreneurial skills and prepare students to take up startups in film and television productions.
  1. NCRTC to receive India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System train set at Salvi
  • In Alstom’s Savli project in Gujarat, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) will receive India’s first semi-high-speed train set for the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, will be mainly present on this occasion.
  • RRTS train sets are manufactured under the Make in India initiative and can reach a top speed of 180 kmph. The train will be taken to Duhai Depot in Uttar Pradesh, where the train will be repaired and operated.
  • Modern commuter-centric features of the fully air-conditioned train include cushioned seating, laptop-mobile charging, luggage racks, and dynamic route maps.
  • NCRTC is in charge of implementing India’s first RRTS corridor between Delhi and Meerut. The 82-kilometer-long route is now under construction.
  • The priority section of 17 km between Sahibabad and Duhai is expected to be commissioned by 2023, with the entire corridor likely to be completed by 2025.

State

  1. UP villages to get free high-speed internet connectivity
  • The Uttar Pradesh government has announced to provide free Wi-Fi facilities at more than 58,000 places in the villages of the state. This free internet facility will be available to the people within a radius of 50 meters of the Gram Sachivalaya (Gram Sachivalaya) building to be built in every Gram Panchayat of the state, which people will be able to take advantage of.
  • In order to make each village a smart village, the government will provide high-speed internet connectivity to the village secretariats and a free high-speed Wi-Fi internet facility to the villagers within 50 meters of the village secretariat building. , The work of establishment of village secretariats is going on in 58,189-gram panchayats of the state.
