  1. Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana extended for 6 months till September 2022
  • The Government of India has announced to extend the free ration scheme Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) for six months. Earlier this scheme was valid only till March 2022.
  • The PMGKAY scheme was launched in March 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic to provide adequate food grains to vulnerable families.
  • The extension is being estimated at an additional cost of Rs 80,000 crore on the exchequer. About Rs 2.6 lakh crore has been spent on this scheme so far.

  • Mahatma Gandhi’s granddaughter ‘Sumitra Gandhi Kulkarni’ is known to the whole of India, she inaugurated the web portal ‘Modi Story’ on March 26, 2022.

  • According to the recent ‘Annual Frontier Report, 2022’ published by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, has been ranked as the most noise polluted city globally.
  • According to the recent ‘Annual Frontier Report’, the city recorded its highest (dB) noise pollution of 119 decibels in 2021.
  • Moradabad city of Uttar Pradesh has come second in the list with 114 decibels of noise pollution.
  • Pakistan’s capital Islamabad ranks third with noise pollution at 105 dB.
  • Meanwhile, the world’s quietest cities according to the report include Irbrid at 60 dB, Leon at 69 dB, Madrid at 69 dB, Stockholm at 70 dB and Belgrade at 70 dB.
