Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana extended for 6 months till September 2022

The Government of India has announced to extend the free ration scheme Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) for six months. Earlier this scheme was valid only till March 2022.
The PMGKAY scheme was launched in March 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic to provide adequate food grains to vulnerable families.
The extension is being estimated at an additional cost of Rs 80,000 crore on the exchequer. About Rs 2.6 lakh crore has been spent on this scheme so far.

Website ‘Modi Story’ launched by Mahatma Gandhi’s grand daughter Sumitra Gandhi Kulkarni

Mahatma Gandhi’s granddaughter ‘Sumitra Gandhi Kulkarni’ is known to the whole of India, she inaugurated the web portal ‘Modi Story’ on March 26, 2022.
The Modi Story website is a volunteer-driven initiative whose main objective is to bring together “inspirational” stories related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi from people who have known and interacted with him over the decades in his life’s journey.
This can be known by visiting the portal modistory.in.
Anyone who has closely observed the life of the Prime Minister can send in writings, audio or visual stories of any such experience or anecdote, accompanied by photographs, letters or personal memorabilia associated with PM Modi.

President Ram Nath Kovind presents President’s Colour to INS Valsura in Gujarat

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind honored Indian Naval Ship (INS) Valsura with the prestigious Presidential Colour, at Jamnagar, Gujarat on March 25, 2022.
‘Marks Officer’ Lt. Arun Singh Sambyal also received the President’s Color on behalf of the unit for his exceptional service of 80 years.
INS Valsura is a flagship or main training facility of the Indian Navy established on 05 December 1942 at Jamnagar, Gujarat to provide training in the field of torpedo handling (underwater missile) and operations.

Dhaka is world’s most noise polluted city while Moradabad in India is second noisiest: UNEP Report

According to the recent ‘Annual Frontier Report, 2022’ published by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, has been ranked as the most noise polluted city globally.
According to the recent ‘Annual Frontier Report’, the city recorded its highest (dB) noise pollution of 119 decibels in 2021.
Moradabad city of Uttar Pradesh has come second in the list with 114 decibels of noise pollution.
Pakistan’s capital Islamabad ranks third with noise pollution at 105 dB.
Meanwhile, the world’s quietest cities according to the report include Irbrid at 60 dB, Leon at 69 dB, Madrid at 69 dB, Stockholm at 70 dB and Belgrade at 70 dB.

Professor Emeritus Wilfried Brutsaert has been named and honored as the 2022 Stockholm Water Prize Laureate. He has been awarded for his groundbreaking and commendable work in quantifying environmental evaporation.
Wilfred Brutsaert teaches as a Professor of Engineering Emeritus at Cornell University, USA.
The Stockholm Water Prize is considered the most prestigious water prize in the world and is often described as the Nobel Prize for water.

Indian women football team clinches 2022 SAFF U-18 Women’s Championship title

India has been lauded for being declared the winner of the third edition of the SAFF U-18 Women’s Football Championship.
The 2022 edition of the International Football Competition for Women’s Under-18 National Teams was held at JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand.
Although India lost the final league match 0–1 to Bangladesh, they still became the champions of the tournament due to a better goal difference.

PV Sindhu wins Swiss Open Badminton title 2022

PV Sindhu defeated Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand to clinch the women’s singles title at the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament.
While the same, Indian badminton player HS Prannoy lost to Jonathan Christie (Indonesia) in the men’s singles title of the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament.
