  1. Albania Elects General Major Bajram Begaj as New President 
  • Albania’s parliament has elected a top military officer, General Major Bajram Begaj, as its new president after no candidate was nominated in three rounds of voting.
  • Outgoing President Ilir Meta signed the decree on the dismissal of Begaj as Chief of the General Staff of the AAF.
  • Prior to this, Bajram Begaz was the Chief of General Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces (AAF). He is the 8th President of Albania and the third President by military rank.
  • Bajram Begaz will be sworn in as the new President on 25 July 2022 to replace the incumbent President Ilir Meta, who will remain in office till 22 July 2022.

  1. Blue Duke declared as the State Butterfly of Sikkim 
  • Chief Minister P.S. Gole declared the Blue Duke as the State Butterfly of Sikkim during the World Environment Day celebrations. The announcement was made during a program organized by the Forest Department at Saramsa Garden near Ranipool.
  • The Blue Duke, a native butterfly species of Sikkim, has overtaken Krishna Peacock, another contender, to be declared as the state butterfly of Sikkim. Two butterflies out of 720-odd butterfly species were selected for the State Butterfly nomination.
  1. Rajasthan CM introduced Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in the State for Sportspersons 
  • Rajasthan Chief Minister (CM) Ashok Gehlot has announced that the state government is ready to give the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award to the sportspersons of the state.
  • He made this announcement while addressing the inaugural and player award ceremony at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

  • World Food Safety Day is observed globally on 7 June every year according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • This year’s theme is ‘Safe Food, Better Health’. WHO also launched a campaign to inspire global participation.
  • The United Nations General Assembly established World Food Safety Day in 2018 to raise awareness of this important food security issue.
  • The World Food Safety Day was jointly launched by WHO and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in collaboration with member states and other stakeholders.
