Schemes News

  1. Government extends Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme by one year until March 2023
  • The Central Government has announced to extend the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) for a full year from March 2022 to March 2023.
  • The total amount to be sanctioned under the ECLGS 3.0 scheme has also been increased from Rs 4.5 lakh crore to Rs 5 lakh crore.
  • Under the ECLGS scheme, a loan of about Rs 3.19 lakh crore has been sanctioned by the central government till March 25, 2022.
  1. Rs 40,009 crore released under Jal Jeevan Mission in 2021-22; Rs. 60,000 crore budget allocated for 202223
  • According to government data, it has been estimated that in the financial year 2021-22, a grant of 40,009 crore was released to the States/UTs under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The total allocation under the scheme in FY2021-22 was around Rs 50,000 crore.
  • In addition, the central government has increased the budget under the Jal Jeevan Mission to Rs 60,000 crore for the financial year 2022-23.
  • Since the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission on 15th August 2019, tap water connections have been made available in more than 6 crore households.
  • The main objective of Jal Jeevan Mission was launched to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections to all households in rural India by 2024.

Banking News

  1. Cabinet approves increase in Dearness Allowance / Dearness Relief by 3% to 34% from January 01, 2022
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) of Central Government Employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners from the existing rate of 31% to 34% from the existing rate of 31%. .
  • The hike announced to compensate for the price hike will be effective from January 1, 2022.
  • The combined impact on the exchequer on account of both Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief is being estimated to be Rs 9,544.50 crore per annum.
  • This increase has been determined as per the accepted formula based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
  • With this increase, about 47.68 lakh central government employees and 68.62 lakh pensioners will get benefitted.
  1. RBI set WMA Limit for Government of India for the first half of the Financial Year 2022-23 at Rs 1,50,000 crore
  • The Reserve Bank of India has set a limit of Rs 1,50,000 crore on Ways and Means Advances (WMA) for the central government for the first half of the financial year 2022-23 (April 2022 to September 2022).
  • When the Government of India utilizes 75 per cent of the WMA limit, the Reserve Bank has the right to trigger a fresh inflow of market credit.
  • The interest rate on WMA/Overdraft will be:

  • Overdraft: Two percent above the Repo Rate
  1. Google Pay collaborates with Pine Labs to offer ‘Tap to Pay’ for UPI
  • Tech giant Google Pay has simplified the work of customers by launching a new functionality ‘Tap to Pay for UPI’ to bring seamless convenience of Tap to Pay to Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
  • This initiative has been started with the collaboration and support of Pine Labs.
  • Till now the facility of Tap to Pay was available only for the card which is now going to be as mentioned above.
  1. CBDT signed 62 Advance Pricing Agreements (APAs) in FY 2021-22
  • The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has signed 62 Advance Pricing Agreements (APAs) with Indian taxpayers for the financial year 2021-22.
  • This included 13 bilateral APAs (as a result of mutual agreement between India and its treaty partners) and 49 unilateral APAs with them.
  • With this, the total number of APAs has increased to 421 since the inception of the APA program.
  • In the last two years, the total APAs signed include a total of 31 APAs in FY 2020-21 and 57 APAs in FY 2019-20.

  • Tech giant Microsoft on March 31, 2022 has launched an awesome new digital and inclusive platform for startup founders in India.
  • The platform called ‘Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub’ in India promises to support startup founders in India at every stage of their startup journey.

  1. 20th India-France Bilateral Naval Exercise ‘VARUNA -2022’ kicks-off in Arabian Sea
  • The 20th edition of the bilateral naval exercise named ‘Varuna’ between the Indian Navy and the French Navy is estimated to be conducted in the Arabian Sea from March 30 to April 03, 2022.
  • Bilateral naval exercise between the two navies is being conducted since 1993 and the exercise was named ‘Varuna’ in 2001.
  • It is learned that various ships, submarines, maritime patrol aircraft, fighter aircraft and helicopters of both the navies are going to participate in the Varuna-2022 exercise.
