  1. Meghalaya’s living root bridges included on tentative list of UNESCO’s World’s Heritage Sites
  • The most famous living root bridges found in the northeastern state of Meghalaya are included in the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
  • The site has been announced to be included in the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Site in the form and form ‘Jingqiang Jeri: Living Root Bridge Cultural Landscapes of Meghalaya’.

  1. Centre extends existing foreign trade policy (FTP) by six months until September 2022
  • The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced to extend the extension of the existing Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2015-20 by another six months till September 30, 2022 to ensure policy continuity in external trade.   • Aprajita Sharma, a 1995 batch Indian Postal and Telecom Account and Finance (IP&TAF) Service Officer, has been appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Council’s Standing Committee on Administration and Management of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
  • After Aprajita Sharma being the Vice President till 2023 and 2024, she will take over the role of President for the years 2025 and 2026.
  • This key decision was taken at the ITU Council meetings held in Geneva from March 21 to March 31, 2022.

  • Former weightlifter Karnam Malleswari was honored with the ‘BBC Lifetime Achievement’ award.
  • BBC ISWOTY is an initiative of BBC India to honor and encourage sportspersons from India who have excelled in their respective fields. The first edition of the award was held in 2020, with P.V. Sindhu was the winner.

  • The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur and the Governor of Karnataka, Shri TC Gehlot launched the logo, jersey, mascot and anthem of Khelo India University Games 2021 (KIUG 2021) at Sri Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on April 01, 2022. Started a new initiative.
  • This theme song has been composed by Kannada rapper Chandan Shetty.
  • KIUG 2021 is expected to be held in Karnataka from April 24 to May 3, 2022.
  • This is going to be the second edition of KIUG, where the first edition was organized by Odisha in 2020.

  1. Former CM of Sikkim BB Gurung passes away at 99
  • Former Sikkim Chief Minister BB Gurung passed away at the age of 99.
  • Bibi Gurung was the third Chief Minister of Sikkim and held the shortest term in the history of the Himalayan state.
  • He took oath as the CM in 1984 and served for just 13 days. He demitted office after assuming office for 13 days from 11 May to 24 May 1984.
